Reid shines on pole vault debut at latest Tommy Clay track and field meet

Athletes from South Holland put on impressive showings in ideal conditions at the seventh Turnbull Tommy Clay Track and Field Development Series meeting this season.

Under-17 Megan Reid had a really good evening in Boston, making her debut in the pole vault having only recently taken up the event.

In the first of the two women’s pole vault competitions held on the evening, she cleared an encouraging 1.60m to finish in second place.

Gaining confidence from her maiden performance, Reid followed this up by achieving a splendid 1.70m for third place in the second contest.

In addition to this really promising vault for a novice, Reid recorded 7.96m in the under-17 shot putt – which was an improvement on her previous efforts in the throw.

Another youngster improving his performances markedly match by match, Jack Clark-Atkins, went over seven metres in the under-13 boys’ shot competition, with his 7.03m effort being a full metre further than his previous best effort.

Clark-Atkins also achieved 8.66m to win the triple jump and clocked 30.0secs in the 200m.

At under-15 level, Hayden Quantrill leapt 8.85m in the triple jump and recorded 29.9secs in the 200m.

He also managed to achieve a respectable 6.65m throw in the shot putt.
