Gousto is to close one of its Spalding sites.
The food delivery company says it is to ‘decommission’ its original site on Marsh Road ahead of its lease being up for renewal.
The company says it will see ‘a number of redundancies’ but declined to say how many.
A spokesman for Gousto, said: “We’ve recently reviewed our manufacturing footprint alongside our continued investment into a fully automated factory network. We’ve sadly decided to decommission our oldest site near Springfields, which was up for renewal in 2024.
“While this decision will, regrettably, result in a number of redundancies, we’re planning to redeploy impacted Springfields colleagues where possible, to our more technologically advanced site in nearby Clay Lake.
“A tough but logical evolution of our factory set up, this will allow us to optimise operations and significantly enhance our proposition for customers.
“However, we remain deeply grateful to those affected employees, who’ve been instrumental to Gousto’s success.”
Gousto has grown rapidly since its inception in 2012 having two sites in Spalding after announcing it was creating 700 jobs back in 2019, 300 of which were in the town.
It also received a huge boost during the pandemic lockdowns, announcing in July 2020 it had created 300 more jobs. That included taking on a number of those working at the Addo Food Group’s bakery which closed down that year.
It states on the company’s website: “Our Spalding sites hold the ops team, the logistics team, the food tech team, and even more of our customer care team.”
