Recognition for litter picker

A Long Sutton resident has been recognised for his hard work around the town.

James Bailey was presented with a Community Award and a bottle of malt whiskey by Long Sutton Parish Council chairman John Clarey.

Mr Bailey tirelessly clears the town of litter including the parks, the Market Place, around the Co-op area and as far out to Wisbech Road and everywhere in between.

Mr Clarey said: “His contribution is huge and helps keep the town looking so clean and tidy.

“Mr Bailey enjoys volunteering because he gets to speak to everyone and is out in the fresh air.

“He is always so polite and good humoured and is a town treasure.

“He carries out the litter picking almost every day of the week and seeks no praise or recompense and is always very humble about what he does for the town.

“The Parish Council felt it was only right that they mark his contribution in some small way especially as he carried on during the lockdown period.”
