Ready for the off with two Holbeach Christmas family events

It’s all systems go for two big Christmas events in Holbeach this weekend. (Dec 3 and 4)

Holbeach St Nicholas Fayre is centred around All Saints’ Church on Saturday and Sunday, and Holbeach Hub Christmas Celebration is in Boston Road South on Sunday.

For St Nicholas Fayre, it is the third annual running of the event. Organisers say this year’s event will be the biggest and best yet, with more than 40 stalls across the weekend, a children’s roundabout, Santa’s grotto, a traditional German tent selling gluëwein (mulled wine), lots of food sellers, an online radio station, and a big programme of entertainment.
Local schools and youth groups such as air cadets and rainbows are involved too.

Lead organiser Jane Francis said: “The committee have worked tremendously hard and our prime aim is to ensure the community have a great time.”

All children will be given a free raffle ticket to win a visit to Fun Farm in Weston.
The event’s climax at 4pm on Sunday is a Christingle service and turning on of the Christmas tree lights.

Meanwhile, Holbeach Hub Christmas Celebration was borne out of a street market and parade organised by town fundraiser Les Ward failing to secure local authority clearance in time.

District councillor Tracey Carter, one of the trustees at Holbeach Hub, stepped in to offer the premises and ensure all was not lost.

There will be over 30 stalls including unique gifts for Christmas, such as jewellery, candles, knitted goods, sweets and pet outfits. Carol singers and a skiffle band will be performing throughout the day and there will be a small steam train.
Partyangelz are going to be Frozen characters Elsa, Anna and Olaf, doing shows for the children and free facepainting. There will also be dance group and karate club displays and a craft area.
It’s on Sunday, 10am-4pm, and entry is free.

Tracey said: “We have had assistance from Millgate Landscapes by providing our gorgeous real Christmas tree and also Welland printers who have sponsored the design of our posters so we hugely appreciate the help.”

  • Mr Ward’s skiffle night at Holbeach WI hall last month raised £300 for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
