Pyramid scheme to earn top-class win over leaders

Division One leaders Consti H suffered the biggest shock of the season so far in the Spalding & District League when they crashed 5-1 at bottom-placed Pyramid D.

The hosts had only one win to their name before the match but got off to a flying start with successes for Marcus Hamilton (o28) and Reegan Cooke-Holmes (o21). Oliver Turner (o14) kept the leaders in the match with victory in the third frame but Josh Agger (o21) and Ryan Burton (scr), in a black ball game, ensured there was no way back.
Consti E grabbed their chance to narrow the gap at the top of the table to two points with a 5-1 win at Pyramid A.
Ben Peppercorn (o7) had a break of 24 in his opening frame win before Jim Benner (r7) hit back to level things.
It was one-way traffic after that with wins for visitors Jack Chilvers (o21), James Kingston (o21) and Martin Ulyatt (o14), the latter two in black ball deciders.
Services C missed the chance to go top and dropped to third spot when they fell 4-2 at clubmates Services A.
A league personal best break of 69 from Vince Fitter (o42) got the A team off to a solid start. Phil Spencer (o7) hit a 22 break but lost to Jordan Philpott (r7). A black ball game went in favour of Chris Dunmore and a 24 break from Martin Spencer (o28) decided matters before Nigel Cherry (scr) pulled one back with a 22 break.
The Holbeach derby went in favour of the ‘visiting’ D team to the tune of 5-1 at Holbeach C.
Wayne Forbelets (o21) opened with a win for the D team but Terry West (r7) hit straight back. Andy Spearman (scr) restored the away advantage and was followed on the winning trail by Don Monk (o14) and Ian Woodberry (o7).
There was also a home defeat for Holbeach B, who went down 4-2 to Pyramid C despite an opening frame victory for Barry Haynes (o7).
Dave Pearson (o7) won a black ball game to level but Neil Harvey (o21) regained the home lead. Spencer Dawkins (o56) made it 2-2 and George Neary-Phillips (o21) won the decider.
There was also a defeat for the leaders in Division Two, where Boundary A fell 4-2 at home to Services D.
Paul Spicer hit a 21 break in his opening frame win but Elliott Cox (r14) levelled. Richard Neal (r21) put Services back in front but a topsy-turvy encounter was all square again with Steve Smith (r14) successful.
It was left to Russ Morse (scr) to hold his nerve to win a final black ball game.
Services B moved to within two points of top spot, with a match in hand, after registering their sixth straight win by seeing off Pyramid E 4-2.
Jason Rose (o28) and Fred Cummins (r14) got them off to a fine start before Jeremy Radford (r7) halved the deficit. Paul Doades (o7) secured victory with Neil McLean closing the gap with a black ball win.
Two of the other matches ended in away whitewashes. Holbeach E were in top form at Consti B with wins from Josh Stretton (r14), Richard Parkes (scr), Rob Coaten (r7), Chris Leary (o14) and Ethan Lawrence (r7).
At Holbeach A, it was Donington A who proved untouchable thanks to victories from John George (o7), Glenn Ryan (o28), Jim Thompson (o7), Kevin Hawes (o7) and Tony Scully (o35), who rounded things off with a break of 22.
Darren Stanley (r28), Robert Adams (o7) and Martyn Stanley (r14) secured Consti F a 4-2 win against Holbeach F, who hit back through James Quinton (scr) and Alex Bourne (o21).
Consti I made a lightning start at home to Gosberton A with wins for Jonathan Smith (r14) and John Bellerby (o7) but Adam Twigg (o14), Geoff Wand (r14) and Alan Jackson (scr) hit back to earn a 4-2 away win.
It is six wins out of six for new Division Three leaders Gosberton D, whose latest success came 4-2 at their C team.
Neil Simmons (scr) and James Parrott (r7) put them ahead before Mark Payne (o14) pulled one back. Paulo Gensiorskys (scr) and Keith Lungley (o14) restored the two-frame advantage with the final point going to Rob Lockett (r28).
Previous leaders Donington B collapsed to a 6-0 defeat at home to Pyramid B and dropped into second spot.
Wins were recorded by Phil Cooke (r7), Darren Hibbins (scr), Dennis Pearson (scr), Carl Kelham (scr) and Roy Jackson (r14).
Donington D are one of three teams sitting just a point off the top following a 5-1 win at home to Consti J, Des Sawdy (scr), Michella George (r28), Pat Taylor (r21) and Paul Whyte (r14) won the first four frames before Stewart Davies (o14) got a consolation win.
Whittlesey A also moved to within touching distance of the pinnacle with a 5-1 victory over Consti D, despite losing the opening frame to Geoff Illingworth (r21).
Andy Blythe (o7), Lance Clarke (r14) and Jason Clarke (o7) put the game to bed before Graeme Sawyer (o14) finished things off with a week’s division-high break of 28.
Paul Spittlehouse (o49) hit a break of 21 in his opening frame win for Boundary B at Consti A as his team rattled off a 4-2 verdict. Mick Goddard (scr) made it 2-0 but Consti hit back to level before Goddard won a close deciding frame in his second game of the night.
Gosberton B emerged 4-2 victors against Whittlesey B courtesy of wins from Mervyn Pattinson (r21), Mark Howlett (o7) and Simon Slinger (scr). Andy Skutela (r14) and Michael Foster (o14) got the away successes.
