Pupils inspired by charity walks

Pupils at a school for specialist learning in Spalding have been striding out to raise money for the air ambulance.

All of the pupils and staff at the InspireU college are walking 150 miles in six weeks.

The alternative provision for pupils with education health and care plans, is based at the former Ivo Day Centre, off Albion Street, and every day they’re on the site the 24 pupils are walking loops around its grounds.

The six week Heliraiser is being carried out in aid of the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance by all the InspireU sites in those counties.

Pupils could choose how they raise the funds and tutor Gen Lorenz came up with the walk for Spalding.

Four weeks into it, they’ve already amassed over 100 miles.

“We wanted to make it a bit of a challenge,” said Gen. “Everyone has got involved and it has become part of our curriculum promoting exercise and healthy eating.

“Afterwards we all come inside and look at our thermometer to see how much money is being raised.
Gavin Knox, a member of senior leadership team said: “It’s been a fantastic initiative and will leave a legacy as it gets the pupils outside.”
