Pub competitions raise charity cash

More than £650 has been raised for charity thanks to a pool and darts competition.

Over 70 people from Bakkavor Meals Sutton Bridge and members of the community hit the dart boards and pool tables at The Anchor to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support has been chosen by Bakkavor Meals as the 2025 charity of the year, which results in a range of fundraising and volunteering initiatives being put on throughout the year to help the charity while raising awareness of its work.

Clare Barratt, technical manager at Bakkavor Meals Sutton Bridge, said: “Bakkavor is first and foremost a people business and this extends to supporting community projects through the year.

“After a hard day’s work, I am delighted that so many of colleagues gave up their free time to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Everyone had a lot of fun. We may not have uncovered the next world champion but the team’s collective effort to help raise £654 to support the charity’s vital work in the community is something we’re all proud to be associated with.”

Jamie Scott-Hook, landlord at The Anchor, added: “I was delighted to host this event for such an important charity.

“Bakkavor were a pleasure to work with. The turnout from Sutton Bridge colleagues was so impressive and it was a special evening, when everyone came together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
