‘Progress made’ on ASB issues

South Holland’s top police officer says the force is making progress on anti-social behaviour and street drinking.

Inspector Ian Cotton (pictured), who heads the South Holland Neighbourhood Policing Team, gave an update on the last three months of policing.
He did say however that his team had ‘spent quite a lot of time covering the response vehicles due to demand’.
” A great summer brings its own challenges for policing with higher demands,” he said. “It’s not ideal I know, but that’s the reality and it will unfortunately be like that for some time to come.”
The force has spent the last nine months prioritising tackling anti-social behaviour and is set to do so again in the next three months following feedback.
“We’ve seen some progress in tackling ASB and street drinking,” Insp Cotton said. ” The graduated process causes some consternation and frustration but is recognised as proportionate when dealing with this type of issue.
“We have some repeat offenders now seeing the inside of a court and one recently has been given a Criminal Behaviour Order with some stringent conditions.
“Hot-spot patrols in Spalding Town Centre funded by the Town Board have had a good effect on visibility and reassurance as well as gathering evidence and tackling ASB.
“These patrols will continue as the funding has been extended. There is more to do on this and the priority has been set again for the next three months.
“We will continue to work closely with partners at Boston Borough Council and support services to address this issue.
“The NPT will continue to build intelligence around dealers and County Lines in the area, enforcing when that intelligence picture allows. In the Holbeach area some concerns were raised around speeding and local patrol plans have been changed to reflect this.”
