Lunch Club hailed a success

The first ever meeting of a new Lunch Club has been hailed a success.
The Royal Voluntary Service has teamed up with Myton Food Group and Morrison’s to launch the monthly meetings aimed at the over 60s.
They’re set to take place at the supermarket’s cafe which is offering a discount for food and offering an opportunity to connect with others in the community.
South Holland District Council chair Jan Whitbourn attended the event and brought along some of the veterans she helps through her role with the Royal British Legion.
She said: “It was a wonderful event and the veterans enjoyed it immensely and will certainly be coming back.
“The staff were very kind and looked after everyone.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and just being out socialising.
“This is a wonderful idea for those who are on their own and just need to be out for a few hours.
Tina Ellis, community champion for Myton Food Group Spalding, said: “Partnering with our local Morrisons, we are committed to supporting the Spalding community.
“As a community champion you can see first-hand how the winter months and loneliness can impact our elderly community and that’s why we are pleased to be joining forces with Royal Voluntary Service to help bring the Lunch Club to Spalding.”
Andrea Briggs, activity coordinator for Royal Voluntary Service, said: “RVS Lunch Clubs often become a treasured moment in diners’ calendars, and are a great way for people to remain connected to their communities, or create new social connections.
“The launch of our new Spalding club was brilliant, and we are looking forward to welcoming even more new people going forward.”
