A South Holland primary school has been rated Good across the board by Ofsted.
Long Sutton Primary is a ‘place of high expectations and strong values,’ says the report.
“Staff and pupils strive to improve themselves. Pupils are proud to receive ‘STAR’ points linked to the school’s values of strength, teamwork, ambition and respect,” he report says.
The school has 434 pupils on the roll and converted to an academy in 2019.
“The school has redesigned the curriculum to ensure that it is ambitious and sets out clearly what pupils should learn and when.
“Children start to develop their understanding of the world around them from the early years onwards. They are well prepared for Key Stage 1 when they begin to study national curriculum subjects,” the report adds.
The inclusive ethos of the primary school was also praised in the report which highlighted the fact pupil’s needs were promptly identified.
“Staff have the information and skills that they need to adapt their lessons skilfully so that pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities make progress through the curriculum,” the report says.
Pupils also develop a love of reading and the school ensures the time they spend reading is enjoyable and purposeful. They begin to learn as soon as the join the school’s reception year.
“We are delighted with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. It is wonderful that the Inspectors were able to see and recognise all the brilliant learning and opportunities that take place in our wonderful school. We have a fantastic community here at Long Sutton County Primary School and I am very proud of everyone involved,” said Sarah Gray, headteacher
“Those who have attended the nursery are well prepared to start their reading journey. Throughout their time in school, pupils read a carefully selected range of texts, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry,” the report says.
“Leaders are proactive in improving the quality of education that the school provides,” it adds.
But there are times the school doesn’t identify areas for improvement clearly, the inspection found.
The inspection awarded a Good grade in all five key areas of quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.
Ofsted no longer gives a one-word overall grade following inspections.
