Lincolnshire’s Chief Constable has authorised extra powers for PCSOs in the county.
The additional powers are on traffic-related matters and come on top of the 20 standard powers the PCSOs already have.
A review into the way the 118 PCSOs work in Lincolnshire led Ch Const Bill Skelly to take the decision.
“I have decided to designate additional powers to our PCSOs which focus on traffic issues and relate directly to the
‘Fatal Four’ initiative and our commitment in tackling serious and fatal collisions on our roads,” he said.
Among their new powers, community officers can issue reports for seatbelt offences, no motorcycle crash helmet, no MoT, speeding and using mobile phones when in control of a vehicle.
They will also be able to require the production of a driving licence, valid insurance and test certificate and have been given the power to seize a vehicle which is not covered by a valid insurance policy.
