Popular festival is back in town

The popular Donington Summer Festival is making a return this year after a two year lay-off due to the pandemic.

Things are slightly different for 2022 as the festival will run from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday (July 30).

Previously the festival ran through the afternoon, but the committee wasn’t sure how it would go after the break.

“We thought we would try this format and there does seem to be a lot of enthusiasm for it,” said Jane Pearson.

“We have bands, entertainment, a bar and food along with things for children to enjoy,” she said.

Children aged under 14 can attend for free or, for £5 can have unlimited goes on the bouncy castles, face painting and balloon modelling which will be on offer.

“We really wanted to keep it affordable for everyone and hope that £5 for an evening of children’s entertainment is not going to break the bank,” she added.

Local bands will be taking to the stage, sponsored by Sutterton-based Jakeman’s, and include The Famous Unknowns and dance music DJ set Circa.

The organisers said they are also grateful to JDM Foods, of Bicker, for help.

This year, for the first time, there will also be cocktails available along with beers, lagers, cider and gin and fizz.

Card payments can also be accepted this year – another legacy of the pandemic.

The summer festival will be held at Donington Community Centre field.
