Police investigating Holbeach town centre arson

Police are investigating a fire in Holbeach town centre fire fighters say was started deliberately.

The disused building at the back of The Chequers went up in flames around 5.20pm yesterday, Tuesday, July 27.

Holbeach High Street was closed as the town’s fire crew joined colleagues from Spalding and Long Sutton in making sure the fire did not spread.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “This incident resulted in severe damage by fire to the entirety of a single storey derelict building, and was caused deliberately.”

It was extinguished using two hose reels and breathing apparatus.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police, said: “Our officers have conducted extensive house to house enquiries and are reviewing CCTV footage in and around the area. Our investigations are ongoing.”
