Players bring Shop of Horrors to stage

One of the country’s oldest amateur dramatics groups is gearing up to bring their own high energy version of a classic to the Spalding stage.

St Nicolas Players will be performing The Little Shop of Horrors, which pays homage to the orginal 1960s black and white film as well as incorporating the 1980s remake and touring stage show, at the South Holland Centre.
Running from Wednesday, October 21 to Saturday, October 24, the St Nicolas Players are hoping to encourage a whole new generation to enjoy the theatre.
As well as the public performances they are also putting on a special show, followed by question and answer session, for schoolchildren, giving them a chance to find out more about performing and working behind the scenes on a stage production.
A spokesman for St Nicolas Players, Alison Honeybun, said: “It’s a high energy, fun show and we hope that there’s lots of audience participation.”
The Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of Seymour, a hapless floristry worker, who raises a plant that develops an unquenchable thirst for human blood!
Initially Seymour affectionately names the plant Audrey II after his sweetheart crush at the shop.
Then Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, promising limitless fame and fortune to Seymour … just as long as he continues to provide fresh supplies!
Tickets for the amateur production of the comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menkin and writer Howard Ashman, cost £12 (£10 concessions). Shows start at 7.30pm each evening, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
They are available from the South Holland Centre box office on 01775 764777 or go to www.southhollandcentre.co.uk
lThree lucky Voice readers each won a pair of tickets to see The Little Shop of Horrors – J Arnold, of Spalding; Laraine Maxwell, of Spalding, and S Gray of Market Deeping.
