Play and learn with town band

An initiative to get people playing musical instruments with a local band is back next week for its 20th year.

Holbeach Town Band’s Learn To Play week will see it open its doors in Back Lane every afternoon for a week from 2pm to 4pm from Monday, July 31 to Friday, August 4.
The band welcomes visits from anyone interested in learning to play a brass instrument.
There is no charge and the band will provide the instruments.
Musical director Mel Hopkin said: “Following the pandemic the senior band and training band have vacancies.
“A lot of their talented younger players, who started playing through previous Learn to Play weeks, have now left for university or work.
“The band are always pleased to welcome existing players to their rehearsals on Wednesday evenings.
“The free Learn to Play week has been arranged during the school holidays and we hope that school children will be interested.
“The week is not limited to children and people of all ages (six and above) are welcome to come along.
“If you have ever thought about learning to play a brass instrument, or if you have played in the past and would like to try again, this is the perfect opportunity.
“Our experts will be on hand to show you how to play a wide range of brass instruments – cornet, tenor horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone and tuba.
“We will be able to teach you how to play an instrument and how to read music.
“You can return as often as you like during the week but will get the most benefit from coming every day.”
The band can offer longer term training through its starter group and learner group on Saturday mornings and the Training Band (for improvers) on a Wednesday evening.
Private lessons can also be arranged by special arrangement.
