Plans back in for children’s home

Plans to create a children’s home in a Holbeach cul-de-sac have been resubmitted after being rejected earlier this month.

The application to South Holland District Council for a Certificate of Lawful Use for 19 Langwith Drive was originally deferred at a meeting of the planning committee.
Officers had initially recommended the plan be approved, but it was rejected by planning officers under delegated powers over concerns at the number of people the application said it would accommodate.
The plan has been resubmitted by Dolphin Vijai John and now references four children as opposed to the initial five.
The original application had attracted ten objections, including one from South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes.
Concerns over the potential for anti-social behaviour and noise disturbance were made, but the council said neither were planning issues which could be considered.
The new application to the district council has an accompanying letter.
“This will be a small, family-style environment where I will live with and personally support up to four young people aged seven to 18, creating a single household setting,” says the applicant.
“My goal is to provide a nurturing and harmonious environment, functioning much like a traditional family home.
“I will personally be caring for the young people with the support of my cousin, who will share the carers’ bedroom with me. Together, we will ensure a warm, intimate atmosphere without the need for additional staff. We will share daily activities such as cooking and eating meals together, and I will personally assist the children with their routines, including school drop-offs and pick-ups,” the letter continues.
Described as a leasee of the house, Mr John says the application ‘stems from a heartfelt desire to create a supportive home that fosters personal growth and independence.’
He said: “I understand that running a supported living home requires considerable dedication, patience and emotional resilience. Drawing from my professional experience and personal values, I am committed to creating a household where open communication, shared responsibilities and mutual respect are paramount.”
The original plan was ‘prepared’ by Silver Birch Care who the applicant works for but it wouldn’t operate the site.
