Pinchbeck United under-16s secure second spot with six-y showing against rivals

Pinchbeck United under-16s ended their campaign in style by beating high-flying rivals Hampton under-16s 6-2 at Knight Street to clinch second place in Division Three of the Peterborough and District Youth League.

Pinchbeck, who are sponsored by Field House, started off the brighter of the two teams and their efforts were rewarded with a wonderful strike from Dawid Gos after ten minutes.

Shortly afterwards, Gos added a second with a splendid effort on goal.

Pinchbeck’s back four of Tom Thorold, Joe Briggs, Dawid Borkowski and George Craig had everything under control for the first 30 minutes, limiting the number of shots Hampton were able to have.

When they were bypassed, Pinchbeck’s keeper Jordan Johnson made a couple of wonderful saves to keep the opposition at bay.

However, a momentary lapse allowed Hampton to break through the defence and pull one back.

Just before half-time, Pinchbeck’s Michael McGowan was fouled in the penalty area for a clear spot-kick.

He calmly picked himself up and slotted home to score what was first of his three goals.

That ensured that the first half ended 3-1 to the home side.

The second half started with more of the same, with Pinchbeck trying their luck and testing the Hampton keeper.

Their pressure paid off when McGowan slotted home goals four and five to round off his hat-trick an put the result beyond doubt.

Hampton managed to pull another one back, before Joe Bull rounded off the scoring with an excellent header that beat the keeper to make the final score 6-2.

It was a well-rounded performance from all of the Pinchbeck players, with the man of the match going to George Craig.

The result ensures that the Pinchbeck lads finish the season as runners-up behind champions Phoenix.

  • Pinchbeck under-16s are looking for several new players to join their squad for next season’s challenge in the under-18s division.

If anybody is interested, they are asked to please contact Martin Johnson on 077111 64383 for more details.
