Ian Dunn is hopeful of adding a few new faces to his Pinchbeck United squad ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Wellingborough Town (3pm).
The Knights have lost four of their five fixtures this season, which has seen them drop into the bottom four of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division and exit the Emirates FA Cup.
They’ve also lost key defender Nick Jackson to neighbours Holbeach United this week (see story, left) to add to their woes.
Dunn, who has had to build an almost entirely new squad over the summer, admits that he’s having to cast the net a little wider in a bid to improve his squad.
“Getting players in is proving a bit of a difficult challenge,” said the veteran striker. “We’ve got a lot of irons in a lot of different fires at the moment.
“Obviously, losing Nick is a big blow. We hoped he’d stay and be a part of the rebuild here, but I think he sees Holbeach as a better bet right now. That’s fair enough.
“I think we’re having to look at how we get players in. We’ve always wanted the local lads, but there’s so much competition.
“If you look at Spalding United, they’ve got very few local lads. Maybe we need a few ‘car schools’ from further afield.
“I’m hopeful that we’ll have a few new faces for the Wellingborough game.
“They’re basically the Cogenhoe side from last year, so we know that we’ll need to be on form if we want to get something.”
Dunn should have Aaron Eyett back in the squad for Saturday’s clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, while new striker Eugene Francis is set for a home debut.
Wellingborough (fifth) have yet to lose in the league after four games.
