Pinchbeck United chief Dunn happy enough with point at Wellingborough

Wellingborough Town 2
Pinchbeck United 2

Player/boss Ian Dunn accepted that 2-2 was the right result as his Pinchbeck United side were held at Wellingborough Town on Saturday.

Lloyd Buckby gave the hosts the lead with a close-range effort in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division clash at the Dog and Duck, but Pinchbeck were back level before half-time thanks to an own goal from Lee Beeson’s cross.

The Knights then went ahead when a fine low Tyler Wright finish found the corner from the edge of the box, but Justin Dowling’s deflected late strike restored parity once more.

With Wellingborough having only lost once at home all season, Dunn felt that a draw was a reasonable result. But he admitted that giving up a 2-1 lead was hard to take.

“The pitch was very soft,” said Dunn. “There was no rain, but it was tricky for sure.

“I think we just felt we had no luck. They bought a free-kick when they scored their first goal – we still should defend it better though – and then the equaliser took three deflections.

“They did have a guilt-edged chance to win it late on, so I can’t be too down. We had our chances too, but on reflection you have to say a draw was about right.

“You could speak to any manager and they’d not be happy to lose a 2-1 lead.

“Wellingborough are a well-established side at this level though, so we can’t be too downbeat.”

Knights: Lovelace, Wilson, Jackson, Cartwright, Wright, Bishop, Tidswell, Beeson, Maltby, Edwards, Oliver. Subs used: Bayliss, Dunn, Ogden.

Attendance: 82.
