Pinchbeck United boss Thorogood is wary of wounded Tigers ahead of South Holland derby

Lewis Thorogood has played down any talk of Pinchbeck United being favourites for Saturday’s derby at Holbeach United (3pm).

The Knights make the trip to Carter’s Park with a spring in their step following last weekend’s 3-1 win over Selston – a result that ended a huge 751-day winless run.

And, with Holbeach yet to win this season and struggling with player availability, it appears Pinchbeck are catching them at an opportune moment.

Boss Thorogood, however, has plenty of respect for the Tigers and will be warning his side about any kind of complacency.

“I know they’ve had a tough start and may be missing a few,” said the Pinchbeck chief. “But we’ll be taking absolutely nothing for granted.

“Holbeach is a very good club and they have strong reserve and youth teams. Whatever side they put out is more than capable, the reserves beat Moulton Harrox the other week, for example.

“From our point of view, we’re looking to pick up where we left off. A local derby is a always good and you’d expect there will be a half decent crowd, too.

“Maybe we’ve not been in Holbeach’s orbit for a few seasons, so there’s not much of a rivalry there right now.

“But they’ve had a slow start and we’re both at the bottom end of the table at the moment, so both sides will see it as a game they can look to win.

“If we can go there and play like we did against Selston, I’ll be happy.”

Thorogood expects to have a full-strength squad to pick from, providing his players emerge unscathed from training this week.
