Pilgrim leads way to Seconds’ win

Spalding Ladies’ 1st 1
Cambridge University 3rd 4

Spalding hosted a cold home game to Cambridge University. The game started with both teams fighting hard for possession. The hosts utilised the width, attacking down the wings with Kate Amess and Tabitha Dunnett progressing into the away half.
However, Cambridge fought hard, using a quick break to open the scoring.
After an inspiring team talk, Spalding entered the second half with a positive outlook and pulled level when they won a short corner and Ellie Holland converted. Cambridge again capitalised on quick breaks to score three more times without response.

Spalding Men 2nd 2
Kettering 2nd 1

It was a cold and windy day at Glen Park but Spalding and Kettering managed to get their game played, despite fears of a frozen pitch.
The home team started well with some strong passing, forcing pressure on Kettering with some good opportunities to score but just lacking the final touch.
The passing play continued and Matthew McManamon-Cookson received the ball on the right wing to play a strong ball into the D, which Adolfo Chantre scored to earn the half-time advantage.
After the rest of Kettering’s subs arrived they seemed to find the missing piece and started to come at Spalding hard, having some solid chances, which Rob Callaby, Harry Maplethorpe, Liam Fravigar and Callum Fravigar were able to withstand until conceding a goal from a short corner.
Spalding began to fight their way back, playing some good hockey to find space down the wing and created plenty of chances.
A second goal came when a shot from Tiago Read left the ball hovering in the air for Tom Pilgrim to slam dunk into the goal.
Noticeable performances came from man of the match McManamon-Cookson, Maplethorpe and Callaby.
All the club’s other matches were postponed.
