Pilgrim Hospital rated ‘inadequate’ by Care Quality Commission

Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital has been rated “inadequate” in a Care Quality Commission report published on Tuesday.(April 11)

The areas of surgery, critical care, and services for children and young people were all rated “good”, but medical care (including older people’s care) and outpatients and diagnostic imaging were both deemed “inadequate”.
Urgent and emergency services and maternity and gynaecology are each rated “requires improvement”.

The site is run by United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.

Watchdog Healthwatch Lincolnshire said once patients are receiving treatment and care, feedback it receives on nursing and other medical staff is that they “really do go the extra mile”.
But it added: “Having come out of special measures only a couple of years ago, we hoped the trust was continuing to address many of the areas that took them into special measures in the first place.  Sadly, some of the same problems such as medical records and safety appear to be ongoing.”

Chief executive officer Sarah Fletcher said: “As part of our watchdog role, we will now be very interested in learning what plans will be put in place to address the immediate areas of concern and deliver a service that Lincolnshire residents should be receiving.”
