Petition to curb estate speeding

Two friends have set up a petition to try and stop speeding drivers on a quiet Spalding estate following the death of a pet cat.

Tracey Mills, of Severn Road and Helen Nicholls, of Thames Road, say they already have more than 50 signatures.
The handwritten petition says it is ‘to stop speeding traffic on Thames and Severn Road in Spalding due to cats getting hit and killed and for the safety of the children and the elderly crossing the road’.
It was Tracey’s two-year-old cat Tigger’s death that led to the pair setting up the petition.
“My neighbour saw it happen and she said the person was speeding,” said Tracey. “We see it so often down here.
“I’ve lived here for seven years and it seems to be getting worse.
“We know of a number of cats hit and near misses of children and the elderly of whom there’s a lot around here.
“A lot of people we’ve spoken to on the estate said to us it was about time something was done.”
“Many of the elderly people we spoke to said they were already afraid of crossing the road,” continued Helen. “I’ve been here 15 years when there was more parking spaces whereas now people park on the road so there’s only room for one car at a time.
“Some cars come down too quickly and are swerving in and out of the parked cars.
“There’s been so many near misses.”
A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Anyone with any sort of ideas about how to deal with traffic issues in their area is advised to bring the matter to their local county councillor.
“This will start a process which will look at each issue on merit and see if it’s possible to bring about any change as needed.”
