PDFL round-up: Moulton Harrox topple champions to cement spot at summit

Runaway ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division leaders Moulton Harrox made it 11 wins from 12 games with a potentially pivotal 3-1 victory over champions Netherton United on Saturday.

Although they fell behind to a Mark Baines strike at Broad Lane, but Danny Maddison (penalty), Marcus Parry and Declan Earth did the business for Nev Nottingham’s side.

Chris Down was sent off late on for Netherton, who also had Baines and Herbie Panting sin binned in what was a competitive clash.

The win keeps Harrox seven points clear of Thorney at the top of the table ahead of this Saturday’s home date with rock-bottom Peterborough Polonia (2pm).

Staying in the Premier Division, Sutton Bridge United enjoyed a 2-1 derby victory over Tydd at Memorial Park.

David Abbott and an own goal got the job done for Bridge in the first half, with Paul Newcombe replying after the break.

Holbeach United Reserves are fourth after a 2-2 draw with Langtoft United, with Louis Steadman and Callum Simmonds (penalty) netting.

Meanwhile, fellow Premier Division side Long Sutton Athletic were dumped out of the Lincs Junior Cup after going down 3-2 at home to Spilsby Town. Goals from

Wilkins Makate and James Ward weren’t enough for the Magpies at London Road.

Also exiting the county competition were Spalding Town, who were upset 4-1 at home by Spalding Town despite an Alex Lyon strike.

Another to go out were Holbeach Bank, who were handed a 6-0 home reverse by AFC Holton Le Clay.

Meanwhile, Division One champions Moulton Harrox Reserves also suffered a beating.

They lost 6-1 at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves in the league, with Rolandas Buivydas getting their consolation.

Both South Holland sides suffered 4-1 defeats in Division Two, with rock-bottom Spalding Athletic going down at home to Warboys Town and Whaplode Drove beaten at Langtoft United Reserves.

Meanwhile, Tydd Reserves were knocked out of the Cambs Lower Junior Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Wimblington Reserves. Tim Lowe netted the Tydd goal.
