Patience pays off as Tydd turn around one-goal deficit

Tydd St Mary battled back from a goal down to win 2-1 away at Ketton Reserves on Saturday in their Peterborough League Division Two clash.

 
The Saints were the dominant team in the first half but failed to make their chances count and it remained goalless at the break.

 
Ketton came out of the blocks the sharper after the break and took the lead with a well worked goal and a neat finish.

 
This was the wake-up call that the Saints needed and they began to turn the screw.

 
They were rewarded for all their hard work just past the hour mark when Will Kirkham floated in a great cross from the right that found Paul Newcombe to head home.

 
Still Ketton battled hard and were thwarting Tydd at every juncture but the Saints made the breakthrough to take the lead with just nine minutes remaining.

 
Newcombe floated in a perfect free kick from the left that found James Woods to glance home and secure a well-deserved hard-fought three points.

 
Woods said: “We had to work really hard for those three points but we got there.

 
“There was some great determination from the lads to keep going and I was really pleased to get the winner.”
