Passage work is ongoing

Work is ongoing to make Spalding’s Abbey Passage nicer to use, the leader of South Holland District Council has said.

Coun Ingrid Sheared raised the state of the much maligned town centre walkway at last week’s meeting of South Holland District Council.
“I’ve people reporting they’re finding it very difficult to walk down there, particularly with the smell of urine and faeces along there currently,” she said. “I understand the people down the passage have been approached about being rehomed elsewhere, but, for whatever reason, they’ve declined the offer.
“What are our options to make it sanitised and usable in town?”
SHDC leader Nick Worth responded: “We’re in constant dialogue with Hills Furniture Store as it’s on their private property.
“There’s a plan of action in place for that.
“I walk down there quite regularly and it’s not particularly pleasant.
“We have been speaking to the street cleaning team to come down there a bit more frequently.
“It’s not just rough sleepers though; we have to deal with the pigeon poo down at the other end as well. That can be pretty unpleasant too.
“I can assure you work is ongoing.”
