An appeal has gone out for clubs and groups to help mark the centenary of Holbeach’s Carter’s Park along with volunteers to help out both the celebration and other events.
The free celebration marking 100 years since the park was opened, will take place on Saturday, June 15, and is close to the 80th anniversary of D-Day (June 6), which will also be marked.
A task group has been created for the event and members are also looking to recreate sporting events from the last 100 years in the park.
The parish council’s deputy chair and head of its events committee, Tim Wiltshire, said: “The entertainment will be diverse.
“Amber Sinclair of the Rock School Bus is in charge of all music. It will include three highly skilled singers, two of whom are from the West End.
“It will really bring the 1940s D-Day event to life
“Our task group is now looking to bring lots of sporting groups on board to recreate historic events.
“We are now looking for groups and individuals to come forward, who may wish to perform a sports and leisure activity, or anything in keeping with the spirit of the event. Those who have period games can bring those along to help create atmosphere.
“It’s about fun and community, while recognising the vital importance of Carter’s Park
“This centenary event is a one-off. It will never happen again and there will be something for everyone old and young alike.
“Everyone is going to want to be in Carter’s Park or they will wish they had been.
“This is going to be very much a traditional, some might say retro, event based around “buns and bunting”. Period dress is encouraged to give atmosphere, but of course is not mandatory.
“Just come along and have a fun day out.”
Holbeach Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) will be singing at the event and hosting a musical night at the WI Hall as a fundraiser for a new community minibus.
