They normally serve others but Sarah Hall and Ellie Clay who have been served up something themselves – a Pride of South Holland Awards nomination.
The pair run Ayscoughfee Café and have been nominated for the Service with a Smile Award sponsored by Coun Paul Redgate.
The person who nominated them described the pair as “very hard working and welcoming young ladies.”
The nominator said: “I would like to nominate both of them for their tireless efforts in recent months, recently for re-opening the cafe with a new and very attractive menu, and during the lockdown period for their enterprise in offering for sale boxes of fruit and veg at very reasonable cost, suitable for families.
“To visit the cafe is always a source of real delight as their welcome is genuinely warm and cheerful, and their menu is varied, innovative, attractive and inviting.
“It goes without saying that their meals are invariably served attractively and with genuine charm.
“These two girls took over from another company and had a lot to live up to, but they changed everything in a very short space of time to make it all different and so much better
“They worked hard to make it feel a better experience for the visitors to their café.
“The food was an amazing change round and the smiles all the time made you feel like you wanted to be there.
“Nothing was too much trouble and they were so helpful if you didn’t like something they changed it for you with no problem.
“These last few months have been hard work for everyone but they have been there, working hard for everyone in the community, always trying new ways to help out where they can.
“In Wales, there’s a song for returning exiles, ‘keep a welcome in the hillsides, we’ll keep a welcome in the vales’
“That saying sums up these two girls and the team they have behind them to help keep the café alive.
“We need to encourage people like the girls to keep going, they are doing a tremendous job.”
“To sum up, these two very hardworking young women most certainly do keep a welcome to their lovely café!”
