Newport Pagnell 0
Holbeach United 0
Boss Seb Hayes was left with mixed emotions after Holbeach United’s stalemate at Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday.
Holbeach extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games after collecting a draw at Willen Road, but saw their six-match winning streak halted by the Swans.
In a game of few chances, Tigers keeper Ricky Drury saved well from a clean-through Dom Lawless in the first half, before Billy Smith wasted a one-on-one in the second half and James Tricks sent a free-header off target.
And, while Hayes admitted that his side were “poor” on the day, he felt they should have won the game.
He said: “I thought that we were poor, quality-wise. Darren Lynch (Pagnell manager) said that he thought I’d be pleased with a draw, but I’m not really.
“Lawless had a great chance in the first half, but both Billy and James should have taken their chances in the second. So, if you look at the clear chances, we should have won 2-1.
“But I always say that, if you don’t play well, pick something up from the game. A point at Pagnell is never a bad point, I just thought we could have grabbed all three.
“I’m looking at the positives; we’ve only conceded three goals in the last six games and have kept four clean sheets in that time. We’re also top of the form guide.
“The only frustration for me is that the teams around us won at the weekend, so we’re eight points adrift of top spot at the moment.
“We’ve now got six league games on the bounce against teams below us in the table, so the aim has to be for us to win all six of them.
“Four of those six are at home, so it’s not too much for me to ask. If we can do that, it’ll set us up for the festive period when we have massive games against Eynesbury Rovers, Pinchbeck United and Deeping Rangers.”
