Over 30 at dinner on Christmas Day

More than 30 people attended a dinner in Spalding which aimed to ensure no-one would be alone on Christmas Day.

For the last few years Vanessa Browning, of the Community Mind Matters group, and her family and friends have catered for the diners.

This year’s event took place at Pinchbeck Baptist Church.

Alongside the Christmas dinner Vanessa, her daughter Rachel and granddaughter India Rose served up, attendees were given presents that had been collected and wrapped by 14-year-old Ollie Ford.

He was among the volunteers who helped out on the day which also included Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority’s Deputy Mayor Ingrid Sheard.

As well as the 30 dinners served on the day, Vanessa and her team also delivered a number of other Christmas dinners for those who couldn’t make it to the centre.

“There was a wonderful Christmas Day spirit and it was lovely to see lots of smiles and receive thanks from those who would otherwise be on their own,” said Vanessa. “One said they were grateful they had some where to go as facing Christmas alone is hard.

“Our volunteers were amazing and big thanks go to them including Ollie and his mum Sarah.

“People were so happy to get a present from him.

“A big thank you to all those that donated presents and food for the day. We are truly grateful.

“Thank you to Ingrid and Jack McLean for picking people up who couldn’t get to us.

“Imagine waking up Christmas morning knowing you were on your own and not even having a phone call to look forward to.

“I have spoken to people over years who have had that and it’s heartbreaking.”
