One year on and £13,000 clean-up bill for Bull and Monkie site still unpaid

The £13,000 bill for tidying up a Spalding eyesore remains unpaid by the site owner after 12 months.

In November 2014, South Holland District Council cleared up the Bull and Monkie plot in Churchgate and secured the site with railings after an order served upon Crispen Holdings went ignored. The cost was then recharged to the firm.

A council spokesperson said this week: “SHDC has invoiced the owner for all of the costs that it is legally permitted to recover and we are pursuing those costs. A legal charge has subsequently been obtained to secure the outstanding debt against the property. This means that the costs can be recovered from the proceeds of a future sale of the property.”

The council is known to be keen on acquiring the site for housing.
