Non-elite football facing 28-day suspension when English lockdown begins on Thursday

There will be no football for any of South Holland’s sides after Thursday following a statement from Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday.

All non-elite football will be suspended from Thursday (November 5), with no exceptions.

That means that, after Pinchbeck United’s Uhlsport UCL Premier Division game at Boston Town on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Holbeach United’s UCK KO Cup final against Rothwell Corinthians at Blackstones on Wednesday (7.30pm), there will be a 28-day period of inactivity.

This extends to junior football, too.

“Any particular activity you can always find an arguable exemption for these measures, or for many of them,” the Prime Minister said.

“The difficulty is that to be consistent and to have a package that works you need to have a thorough series of measures.

“I bitterly regret we have to curtail for 28 days to curtail football clubs and sports events in the way that we are.

“I bitterly, bitterly regret it but it is necessary to keep the R down.

Non-elite football includes all clubs from step 3 and below in the men’s game and below the top two tiers of the women’s pyramid.

That means that all fixtures in the Pitching In NPL, Chromasport UCL, ChromaSport PDFL, Boston and District League and Spalding Sunday League will be temporarily suspended.
