Nominate your lockdown heroes

The Pride of South Holland Awards are on the lookout for those heroes who have come to the fore since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The annual celebration of the area organised by Jan Whitbourn was unable to take place last year as a result of the pandemic.

And when it returns it wants to honour those who have played a huge part in helping others during the pandemic.

All of the nominations submitted last year are being carried over and it’s hoped a ceremony will take place sometime later this year.

But to mark the unprecedented time, Jan has linked up with the Woodlands Hotel in Spalding to launch the COVID-19 20/21 Volunteer of the Year category.

Gan Seta, owner of the Woodlands, said: “I will be looking for someone who has gone out of their way in the community and who has looked after people who have suffered at this difficult time, been passionate and done a great job in making people feel valued.

“It could be they’ve looked after the vulnerable, gone shopping for them or even just chatted to a lonely person and made their day.

“I would also like to hear about the care people have received from doctors’ surgeries, hospitals and care homes, all those people who have gone the extra mile and still keep smiling, those who have worked hard just to make someone smile at the end of the day.”

Jan said: “Gan and his team feel it is important to recognise the help, support and efforts many people in South Holland have been through and for all the good work that has been done since March 2020.

“So many have worked hard and gone the extra mile volunteering and giving everything they can, Gan wanted to celebrate with these people who have given to the vulnerable individuals in our community during these difficult times.

“He felt that The Woodlands needed to give something back to the community.

“Gan has a very kind heart and is always thinking about giving back to the community.

“The Woodlands won ‘Service of the Year’ a few years ago, which was well deserved.

“For the new award he did not want the winner to just receive a trophy, he has promised the winner dinner, bed and breakfast for two at the Woodlands when we are able.”
