Player/manager Ian Dunn is hoping that new signings Nick Jackson and Ryan Oliver will help Pinchbeck United recapture their early season form.
The Knights have now lost three Future Lions UCL Premier Division games on a spin after last Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at Oadby Town and have fallen from second to seventh in the table.
Dunn always insisted that Pinchbeck, promoted as UCL Division One champions last year, would discover their true position in November.
He feels that they are some way off the leading sides, but hopes that adding former Holbeach skipper Jackson from Wisbech Town and snapping up Grantham Town striker Ryan Oliver will add some much-needed experience to his squad ahead of Saturday’s home date with Peterborough Northern Star (3pm).
“Nick is a very experienced defender and knows the level very well,” said Dunn. “He’ll help us in many ways.
“We need more voices on the pitch and he’ll certainly bring that, too.
“Ryan will be the first to say he’s not the best footballer in the league, but he’s a great character and is a very good striker at this level.
“He scores goals, gets in the right position and will win us free-kicks and look after the ball.
“Both players will give us something that we’ve been missing and help bridge that gap to the other top sides.
“Add the returns from injury of Tyler Wright and Ash Murrell – two of the players that have made us what we are over the past few years – and we’re looking much stronger now.”
Dunn is hoping that Pinchbeck’s winless run comes to an end at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday, but admits that tenth-placed Star are an unpredictable opponent.
He added: “Star are a very young side and they are a close-knit group.
“There are plenty of young players in that team, so they are a little unpredictable. But they’ve proven capable of getting big results.
“We need to impose ourselves on the game and cut out the silly mistakes we’ve been making.”
Jackson, Oliver and Wright should all be in the squad for the clash.
