New relief road takes shape

The controversial new western bypass is taking shape around Spalding with clear sight from the air.

Work has started on the first section accessed from a new roundabout off Pinchbeck Road.

Preparation work for the road started at the beginning of the year after delays by COVID and an attempt by MP John Hayes to have the government call-in the plan.

Work was due to start last spring, but increased costs and issues around land ownership also added to the delayed start.

The central sections of the stretch of road has yet to be awarded funding but the most northerly and southern roads are going ahead.

First stages of the works include removing Two Plank Footbridge, piling platform, drainage work and removing topsoil.

The first section will not be completed until next year.

From later autumn this year, there will be a spate of road closures, reduced speed limits and temporary traffic signals

Specific dates and further details on roadworks relating to the project will be confirmed later.
