Charity ensures groups continue

Two well-loved bereavement support groups in Spalding and Holbeach are set to continue under a new name, ensuring vital support remains available for residents.

For the past two years, Tonic Health has hosted the Sue Ryder Grief Kind Space, providing a safe and welcoming environment for people experiencing grief.

The group has supported many individuals across the community, with around 40 people attending each week – on Mondays at The Holbeach Hub and Tuesdays at Tonic Health Spalding, from 10am to 12pm.

However, Sue Ryder has recently announced that it will be stepping back from delivering the service from May 1.
In response, Tonic Health will continue to run the groups independently, ensuring that no one loses access to the important support.

The group will now be known as the Tonic Health Bereavement Support Group, a name chosen by the group’s members and volunteers.

Project coordinator Laura Stevens said: “The group offers a safe space for people to talk, listen, and connect with others who understand what they are going through.

“Many attendees have formed meaningful friendships and found comfort in sharing their experiences.

“We know how important this group is to the people who attend. For many, it has become a lifeline. We didn’t want to see that support disappear, so we are committed to continuing the group and making sure people in our community still have somewhere to turn.”

Tonic Health is seeking local sponsorship to help sustain and grow the group. Sponsorship would support the ongoing running of the sessions, including venue costs and refreshments, as well as helping to ensure the group remains accessible, welcoming, and consistent for those who rely on it. Continued funding will allow Tonic Health to keep providing a safe space where people can connect, reduce isolation, and begin to rebuild their lives after loss.
