New radio station set for take off

A new radio station is set to take to make waves in the Spalding area.

Internet-based station Sound of Spitfire will officially launch on Monday (April 2).

It is being operated by three local business owners, Chris Hyde, Thomas Smith and Zandra Tiitso.

“We are already getting lots of interest via our Facebook page,” said Zandra, commercial and marketing director. “People seem genuinely excited at the prospect of getting a local station back in Spalding.”

“A few people have asked why we aren’t broadcasting via FM radio signal,” said Thomas Smith, Technical Director. “The answer is that the transmissions wouldn’t stretch to the more rural communities.

“By using the internet, we can serve more people within South Holland and beyond.”

Monday’s launch starts at 10am with a day-long live programme counting down an all-time top 100 chart.

Listeners are invited to interact and ask for requests and shout-outs by tweeting in (@SoundOfSpitfire) or commenting on the Sound of Spitfire Facebook page.

Director of programming Chris Hyde said: “Looking forward we aim to provide a great mixture of live programming and pre-recorded shows that will appeal to a wide range of people.

“We already have local and national contributors providing shows that cover most genres of music from jazz and country to rock and pop. We even have a weekly ‘Pirate Radio Show’!”

Listeners can tune in to the “Sound of Spitfire” on their laptops, tablets, smartphones and smart TVs by going to www.soundofspitfire.co.uk and clicking “Listen Now”.

It is also possible to listen live by using a smartphone app, such as the Tune-In App and searching for “sound of spitfire”.
