A new line of overground electricity cables is being proposed to start in South Holland.
The new Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire project is a ‘proposed network reinforcement carrying electricity into the Midlands’, the National Grid says.
One end of it would be at the Weston Marsh substation, just north of Spalding, which is proposed for the already announced Grimsby to Walpole line overhead cables.
National Grid says the cables for the new connection to a yet to be announced location in east Leicestershire would be overground, but would use existing pylons where
possible.
A spokesman for National Grid said: “We are at the very early stages of exploring proposals to upgrade and reinforce the electricity network between Lincolnshire and east Leicestershire.
“A public consultation will launch in June to share more information and gather local feedback, including how work will be co-ordinated across the counties.”
“In the meantime, we are keen to hear the views of local residents and communities on our Eastern Green Link proposals, which are primarily underground and subsea projects,” the spokesman continued. “They would connect Lincolnshire and the East Midlands, where demand for electricity will continue to grow over the years ahead, to more affordable generation sources from Scotland, delivering greater energy security for Britain.”
