New home plan for farm poultry unit

A new dwelling could be built at a poultry farm on Fen Road, Donington, if plans are approved.

The application has been sent to South Holland District Council and the home would be a four-bedroom property with integral single garage.

Having an experienced person on-site 24/7 is described as ‘normal’ for poultry units of the same type.

“Welfare problems likely to arise in a matter of minutes,” says an accompanying report. It adds birds could die in extreme hot and cold temperatures.

The resident manager would also be on-site for security alongside providing animal welfare controls for the nearly 200,000 birds on site.
