A new CCTV network is being put up in Holbeach’s Carter’s Park.
Cameras have been in place for several years but the upgrade comes after concerns over its usefulness following reports of anti-social behaviour in the park earlier this summer.
Now the council says the CCTV feeds will be monitored by the main control room for the area controlled by Lincolnshire Police and the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership.
Most recently, one member of staff was responsible for viewing any footage captured.
At a meeting last week the council ‘voted unanimously’ for the new CCTV system.
“The new cameras will be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by specialist operators in a dedicated control centre,” a spokesman for the parish council said. “This important investment is designed to provide parishioners with greater peace of mind when visiting and spending time in these areas.
“The enhanced CCTV coverage will also help ensure that anyone committing criminal or anti-social behaviour can be identified quickly, with relevant information and evidence passed to the police.
“The decision represents a major step forward for Holbeach Parish Council and follows a considerable amount of hard work, discussion and negotiation to bring the project to fruition.
“This investment is about protecting and supporting our community. Holbeach Parish Council is committed to listening to the concerns of parishioners and taking meaningful action to help ensure that our town and public spaces remain welcoming places for everyone to enjoy.”
In 2020 the council removed CCTV cameras in the park after a camera was stolen and a complaint made about access to the data being stored.
It led to more up-to-date systems being put in place in 2023, but the incident in July led to the council’s latest actions.
