The number of births registered in Lincolnshire over the course of a year were almost half the number of deaths.
A report to the county council’s Public Protection and Communities Scrutiny Committee says a total of 4,524 births were registered while deaths were 8,280 in 2023/24.
The birth registrations fell slightly over the previous year with 4,883 in 2022/23 and deaths were also lower with 8,877 in 2022/3.
The annual report of the registration and celebratory service says there had been a spike in the county’s birth rate during spring 2022 which was not replicated last year.
“The service continues to develop its ceremony offering with more services and ceremony types being introduced.
“Private citizenship ceremonies have been made available as an alternative option to the group ceremony and these are increasing in popularity.
“Weddings and civil partnerships continue to remain popular with over 2,400 ceremonies taking place in 2023/24.
“This represents a slight drop from last year which was inflated by displaced ceremonies from previous years,” the report says.
“The service continues to increase its number of licensed venues.
“For the first time, this number has grown to over 100 venues across the county, providing couples with greater choice and different types of venues.
“The service continues to develop its own offering within council venues and couples can book as far ahead as 2028.”
The registration service introduced online payments over the last year and £1m was taken in total, with 90 per cent paid online.
