There’s been a significant increase in the theft of bikes with one Spalding mum urging others to be vigilant after her 11-year-old son’s bike he’d bought himself with birthday money was stolen in the town centre.
Nichola Good is warning people to wary after son Thomas’s silver Carrera bike was taken while locked up outside Barclay’s Bank in the town.
The theft occurred on Friday, November at around 4.15pm.
“People need to be made aware as you don’t expect this kind of thing to happen to yourselves,” she said. “It was locked up for just half an hour.
“The incident was reported to the police by two separate people at the time of the crime and I went straight round to the Spalding Police Station which whilst I was in there with my distraught son,
I heard of another bike being stolen over the police radio whilst we were in there.
“My son’s friend also had his bike stolen from the same area of town on the Monday before. I’m convinced that we won’t get the bike back but I really would like to do something to warn other people of this awful crime that people think they can get away with in broad daylight in the centre of town in front of witnesses.
“He had only had it since July, it was his pride and joy, his mode of transport to and from school which he had saved hard for to buy out of his own money.”
Inspector Gareth Boxall of Spalding Police, said: “We have seen a significant increase in the theft of bicycles in Spalding. We continue to investigate these thefts and appeal to anyone with any information to contact us on 101 or through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. I appeal to everyone to keep bikes locked up. You might only be leaving your bicycle for a few minutes but it takes just seconds for someone to take it.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police and quote incident reference 317 of 30/11/18.
