Moulton Harrox earn PDFL Premier second place ahead of cup final

Moulton Harrox cemented a second placed finish in the Peterborough and District Football League Premier Division with a 2-0 win against Stamford Lions.

Goals from Ian Bradbury and Louis Steadman sealed the win ahead of tonight’s PFA Cup Final.

Holbeach United Reserves rounded off the Peterborough and District Football League Premier Division campaign in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 win over Ketton.

They finish very much in a mid-table eighth position with 12 wins, 12 losses and six draws to their name.

Jordan Keeble scored twice for the Tigers’ second string while Callum Davies and Fenn Storey also got on the scoresheet in Saturday’s match.

Spalding United Reserves suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to Eye United in Division Two that leaves them in fifth place in the final table for the division.

Whaplode Drove ended a season that saw them finish fourth in Division Three with a 4-3 win over Brotherhood Sports last week.

Harry Griggs was at the double for Whaplode who also had Lee Jackson and Joe Strickland on the scoresheet.

In Division Five, both Holbeach United A and Tydd St Mary Reserves finished their respective seasons with defeats on Saturday.

Tydd went down 4-2 at Huntingdon despite goals from Luke Dobbie and Ryan Ingle while Holbeach lost 5-2 at Stamford Lions A.

Holbeach finished third from bottom and Tydd second from bottom.

Moulton Harrox will be looking to end the season on a high tonight (Thursday) as they take on Netherton United for the Peterborough FA Senior Cup final at Peterborough United’s ABAX Stadium.

After lifting the Junior Cup earlier in the season with a 5-0 thrashing of Coningsby, the club’s reserves also won the ChromaSport Chairman’s Cup on Saturday.

The 1st XI could be in line to make it a treble of cups for the Broad Lane club tonight.

But they will have to overcome a Netherton side who are looking for their own league and cup double having pipped

Moulton to the Peterborough and District Football League Premier Division title.

Moulton Reserves have already completed their own version of the double as the runaway Division One champions won the Chairman’s Cup with an excellent 4-1 victory over Wittering Harriers on Saturday.

After a closely fought Moulton took a first half lead thanks to a stunning Martin Sandall free kick which was the score at the break.

Wittering drew level with just 17 minutes remaining after a defensive error led to Andrew Moss scoring.

Moulton took control and restored the lead just seven minutes later through Simon Morgan.

As Wittering through the kitchen sink at Moulton looking for the equaliser it opened plenty of gaps at the back that

Harrox were able to take advantage and they added two further goals to ice the cake.

Firstly Declan Earth netted from the penalty spot before Sandall scored his second of the game to seal a 4-1 win.
