Motorists asked to keep market clear

Police have appealed to motorists parking in Long Sutton Market Place not to do so on a Friday.

PC Freeman, of Holbeach Police, has written a letter to business owners in the town saying the police are regularly receiving calls about illegal parking in the Market Place.

Following a disagreement between South Holland District Council and Long Sutton Parish Council over the proposed re-siting of the market, Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department has put a temporary order in place restricting parking in the Market Place between 5am and 6pm on Fridays.

This means the area is pedestrianised on a Friday.

The letter says: “Can I please ask that you remind your customers, staff and visitors of this restriction in order that the market may proceed without any unnecessary obstructions.

“I appreciate your assistance in this matter and trust this letter is received in the spirit in which it is intended, ie education rather than enforcement.”

The letter has been posted on Facebook by South Holland district councillor

Jack Tyrrell, who said: “PC Freeman has just dropped the letter off to me.

“He hand delivered this to all the business in town and saw one or two owners.

“It’s a very polite letter. He will be looking tonight, however I did say I’ll be ringing him at 5.30am if there’s a car there. He said ‘Let’s hope you’re not, but if you do they will have a ticket!”
