More misery for Spalding United, big Holbeach United clash postponed

Spalding United’s miserable form in Evo-Stik League First Division South continued on Saturday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

It’s now five defeats on the spin for the Tulips, who did look to be on course for at least a point until the final stages of the match.

The score was 1-1 at half time, with Josh Moreman’s 45th-minute effort cancelling out an early strike from Joe Lumsden.

However, Steels – who began the game in the lower reaches of the table – bagged all three points thanks to Corey Gregory’s effort 20 minutes from time.

Despite their latest loss, Spalding remain fourth in the table and are still occupying a play-off position ahead of Saturday’s home date with Romulus (3pm).

In the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division, Holbeach United’s big home date with Leicester Nirvana was postponed after an 11am pitch inspection.

Parts of the Carter’s Park surface were deemed unplayable and the game will be rearranged.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox finally lost their 100 per cent record in ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division after a 1-1 draw at Netherton United.

After a perfect 14 wins from as many matches, they looked in danger of suffering a first league loss when Steve Mastin buried a free kick.

But Ollie Maltby levelled for Dave Panton’s side, who are three points clear at the top of the table.

It was also 1-1 at Knight Street, where third-placed Peterborough Sports Reserves held fourth-placed Pinchbeck United. Dan Woods was the scorer for Ian Dunn’s side.

Holbeach United Reserves slip down to fifth after they lost 1-0 at second-placed Whittlsey Athletic.

Down in Division One, Long Sutton Athletic began 2016 with a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Whittlesey Athletic Reserves, while Moulton Harrox Reserves beat ICA Sports Reserves 4-1 at Broad Lane.
