Mixed results for bowlers

On Sunday, Spalding Lightning booked their place in the third round of the mixed Egham Trophy with a comfortable 60 shot (105-45) win against Stamford.
Although Stamford were well in the game up to ten ends with the difference only 11 shots (38-27), Spalding Lightning showed their class in the second half where the lead was extended to 65-36 by 15 ends and 94-42 at 18 ends.
Stamford conceded when the score was 105-45 with most rinks having played 19 or 20 ends.
Spalding Lightning won on all rinks but the top winning rink was skipped by Dominic McVittie, with Kevin Ekins, Maggie Wheatley and Annie Dunham, who returned an impressive 33-13 rink win. Well done also to Carole Nunney who made her debut in the team.
Next up are Barwell, who beat Leicester, on Sunday, November 27.
Rink Scores: Home – Jean Patterson, Carole Nunney, Simon Lilley and Graham Smith – won 26-15; Ruby Hill, Tracy Philpott, Martin Spencer and Jordan Philpott – won 19-8. Away – Kevin Ekins, Maggie Wheatley, Annie Dunham and Dominic McVittie – won 33-13; Stephen Harris, Julie Hicks, Chelsea Spencer and Mathew Orrey – won 27-9.
qOn Saturday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted Grantham in the men’s county league.
Although the match was closely contested, the away team prevailed by five shots, 87-92.
Grantham also secured 12 of the 14 available points.
Spalding did manage one rink win though which was skipped by Dan Mills, with Tony Westland, Paul Turner and Mike Robertson, who won 34-10.
