Mind charity nets Tesco help goal

A South Holland mental health charity that uses football to reduce mental health stigma has been shortlisted for Tesco cash help.

Tesco and Groundworks’ community funding scheme provides grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 to local community projects.

Three groups in each Tesco region have been shortlisted and shoppers vote for which they think should take away the top grant.

This round, Mind Kicks is one of the groups on the shortlist.

Mind Kicks uses the power and passion of professional football to help raise awareness of, and reduce the stigma associated with, male mental health issues across the UK. Suicide is still the biggest killer of men under 45 and Mind Kicks is working tirelessly to change that.

Mind Kicks chairman, Tim Stoodley, said: “We’re really excited about this cash boost!

“We’re always overwhelmed by the support of the local community and we’d be delighted if they can help us once again. Every time you shop in one of the three Tesco stores, you’ll be given a token, which you then place in one of the three charity boxes on your way out of the store.

“We have several projects bubbling away and this cash will really help us to launch them successfully and ultimately make a huge difference to the mental health of blokes all over the country, including those within the local Tesco store catchment area.

“I want to thank Tesco and Groundwork for their support so far and also extend my thanks in advance for everyone who votes for us throughout the two months!”

Voting is open in the Tesco Superstore in Bourne, as well as the Express stores in Bourne and Spalding throughout May and June and customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out.

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp
