LETTER: No relief for residents over road

The uncertainty around the construction of the Spalding Western Relief Road continues, varying time scales, four, ten and 25 years, if at all, which is not alleviating the fears of the Bourne Road residents.

After the initial shock of discovering our homes may be demolished, those directly affected are still none the wiser, even though, it has become clear the preparation of the Local Plan placed us in the Safeguarded Corridor – safe only for the developers – some time ago, although no prior notice was given until it was too late for us to object, and the plan was published – a 30-year plan we understand.

Mistakenly, we thought our local councils had a duty to be open and honest with us, and a duty of care as per their mission statement.

All we can say is we feel let down by some local councillors involved with the design and routing of the ‘relief road’, planning has been afoot for many months to destroy our lives, and still the agony continues.

Living in a blighted property, already devalued and potentially destined for destruction is not good for state of mind or health.

Our elected representatives should be looking to serve their long standing citizens, not pandering to the housing developers.

Add to that the misinformation and inconsistent approach of correspondence to the affected residents – all we can say is we are totally disillusioned.

We can now only let our voting pens reflect our opinions and the future of Spalding.
