Spalding’s Tuesday market is currently full up with traders, a district council official has said.
South Holland District Council has faced criticism, particularly from traders, who it told to bring their own stalls after opting not to provide them any more and book in every time they wished to attend.
The moves led to reports of traders turning their back on Spalding, however the authority’s environmental services manager Charlotte Paine told a meeting of the Spalding Town Forum that the council is now re-looking at its options in a bid to allow more traders to stand on a Tuesday.
“Tuesday markets are currently full with the number of new traders having joined us,” she said. “We’re looking to see if we can accommodate any more on Tuesdays within the guidance we need to consider.
“Saturdays are not currently as busy but we’re working to attract more traders and have seen some of the farmers’ market traders join us some Saturdays.
“We visited the market and those trading were happy with how things are working currently.
“We’re continuing to build our working relationship with the traders and their representative.”
