A mother and daughter from Spalding are to run the London Marathon together to raise money in honour of a relative living with type one diabetes.
Megan Bean turned 26 on Sunday and has decided it’s the perfect time to join mum Sharon in running 26 miles.
The pair are raising funds for Breakthrough T1D.
“My niece Faith Robinson was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of two,” said Sharon who has run numerous London Marathons and the New York Marathon.
“We have seen close hand as a family how living with this autoimmune disease has affected every aspect of Faith’s life and those around her.
“It literally means living through the highs and lows with a life threatening condition.
“I have raised many thousands of pounds over the years for this charity (formerly JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) who support children and their families living with type one and fund research into finding a cure.”
“I am excited to run with Megan this year and she has started her running journey a short while ago but is smashing her training plan and is organising a bake sale at Peterborough Hospital where she works as a nurse.”
Megan said: “I wanted to run after watching Mum, my auntie and uncle Louise and Sean Neal complete the London Marathon in previous years and applied last year just after marathon day after watching my Auntie Louise complete it.
“Training has been challenging with the weather, early morning runs before work and trying to fundraise but overall it’s going well.
“I completed my first half marathon last Sunday.
“I am enjoying the training and challenges, though I would be lost without Mum.”
